20-year-old Eni Mevish, a Staffordshire University student, was murdered on 9 November 2014 at her home on Cauldon Road in Shelton, Stoke-on-Trent. She was studying Police and Criminal Investigation and dreamed of becoming a police officer. Around six months earlier she had befriended 68-year-old David Marshall, a convicted sex offender. On the night of the murder, Marshall let himself into her home with a key and attacked her with a knife, inflicting 16 wounds, including injuries to her heart, liver and lungs. Eni died outside her home. Marshall pleaded guilty to murder and in April 2015 was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 20 years and six months.
